This episode is about the story of Jenalee and how she suffered from bipolar disorder. Her experiences have afforded her the desire to write about others that suffer and support our work to raise awareness in an attempt to normalize mental illness. She first learned of it during a postpartum experience with depression.
Author Nilza Elita supports advocacy of mental health and raising awareness. She wrote about a character that suffers from schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, in an effort to help normalize the two illnesses. Her book is also released this week. Go find her on Instagram and check out her book, “Dare to Imagine.”
She researched about both mental illnesses prior to and during her writing. She wanted the characteristics of her characters to be real.
Julia Blake Author discusses her book and the bullying she endured as a child. Her character suffers horrendous bullying from all sides and nobody comes to her aid. Bullying in our nation’s schools has been a world-wide epidemic and this book helps open eyes to those that bully, being a cause for dialogue and lessons in school.
Julia herself came through this to become a strong author and her only message is to support others to seek help, talk to someone and for the bullies to stop maltreatment of others.
Dawnette Brenner shares her story as to why she began this podcast. You can read more about her on the blog page.
